Garching Joint Work Site

The Garching Joint Work Site is located on the campus of the Max Planck Institut für Plasmaphysik in Garching, 15 km north of Munich.

In addition to handling project personnel and administration, and contact with the Participants, the Garching Joint Work Site is responsible for many project integration items, design integration, quality management, and cost management.

The Garching Joint Work Site is also responsible for maintaining the design and preparing the procurement documentation for in-vessel components, including:

vacuum vessel, shield/blanket, divertor, RF heating and current drive systems, in-vessel diagnostics in support of the overall diagnostic systems design, and other in-vessel components and penetrations;

all interfaces required for the integration of in-vessel systems and components into the global Project, such as interfaces with the cryostat, tokamak cooling water system, the tritium plant and instrumentation and control;

development and implementation of any remaining manufacturing R&D and design activities required for the above, in conjunction with the Participant Teams, including definition of tasks, active interaction and monitoring of technical progress, and evaluation of results.

The Head of the ITER Garching Joint Work Site is Dr. Valeri Chuyanov.
