Director General

The Director General (DG) of ITER is the Chief Executive Officer of the ITER Organisation. The DG is responsible to the Council for its efficient execution. The DG therefore supervises the appointment of its staff and their work, and works with the Council to obtain resources and resolve any problems.

The appointment of the DG is for 5 years, which may be extended once.

The DG represents the ITER Organisation, and is responsible for:

• safety and observance of the law, licensing and quality assurance;
• drawing up budgets and monitoring expenditure of the Organisation, as well as the project schedule;
• organising the ITER Council meetings, via the Secretary, and supplying necessary information for its subsidiary committees on management and science.
