Just watching the football matches on TV wasn't enough. They wanted to kick the ball themselves. And so it happened: On Tuesday, 17 June 2008, the first official first ITER soccer match took place in Saint Paul-lez-Durance where the mayor, M. Pizot, had kindly opened the gates to the local pitch. The Design Office Team thrashed the All-ITER team by 5-1.
