During his career, Sir Chris Llewellyn Smith, retired head of the UK fusion programme and Chairman of the ITER Council, moved from theoretical physicist to energy guru. Llewellyn Smith thinks that his newcomer status has given him a good grounding for the job and so he finds himself in the position of explaining fusion to others.
