28th September 2006: EAST Startup

Reports circulating about the success of China’s startup of the EAST tokamak experiment in Hefei on Wednesday have stimulated worldwide interest.  Its superconducting coil system will enable it to study long pulsed operation of plasmas, giving China a world-class experimental tool with which to push back the boundaries of knowledge in plasma physics alongside experimentalists from the other ITER Parties' development programmes.

Further technical information is available in the EAST Newsletter.
