Fifty years ago, on 14 October 1959, the French government officially decided to create the sixth of its "Atomic Research Centres" at Cadarache. Serge Durand, the present Director of CEA-Cadarache, reflects on what has been accomplished over the past half-century and talks about his "dream" of making Cadarache - currently one of three largest nuclear research facilities in the world - the centre of a "Valley of Energy" which would stretch from Aix-en-Provence to Sisteron.
