On Thursday 25 April, inspectors from the French nuclear regulatory authority, ASN (accompanied by one expert from the French Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety Institute, IRSN) were on site to inspect the propping and formwork activities in the Seismic Pit.
Around each one of the 493 seismic pads, the plywood is cut to fit exactly. Some 14,000 tons of concrete will be poured over this plywood "floor." After the basemat dries, the propping and formwork materials will be removed through an opening on one side of the pit.
