Directorate for Buildings and Site Infrastructure
Timothy Watson, Director for BSI Directorate

The Directorate for Buildings & Site Infrastructure (BSI) is charged with all construction-site matters such as excavation, building construction, electricity and water supply, storage of components, and application of safety requirements for nuclear and non-nuclear buildings. The mission of the Directorate is to ensure that the site infrastructure and buildings required for the ITER facility are constructed in a timely and cost-efficient manner, in accordance with specified requirements.

BSI works closely with the ITER Organization Nuclear Safety, Licensing & Environmental Protection Division to implement processes and procedures that ensure compliance with the 1984 Quality Order and recommendations from the French Nuclear Regulator. The Directorate also interacts closely with Agence Iter France, representing the Host Organization CEA; the European Domestic Agency, responsible for the detailed design and construction of the site infrastructure and buildings; building contractors; and the Architect Engineer ENGAGE.

As buildings are constructed and completed, the BSI Directorate will play a major role in the coordination of equipment storage and installation on the ITER site as well as in the maintenance of the buildings and site infrastructure.
