Directorate for CODAC, Heating and Diagnostics
Paul Thomas
The Directorate for CODAC, Heating & Diagnostics (CHD) has responsibility for three systems that are essential to the correct and safe operation of the ITER Tokamak and the execution of the ITER physics program: Control, Data Access and Communication (CODAC) gathers and analyzes data and sends signals to other Tokamak systems in order to control the plasma; the heating and current drive system adds heat and current to the plasma so that the fusion conditions can be initiated and maintained; and the diagnostic systems, which measure and allow optimization of the plasma performance.

The CHD Directorate is in charge of Procurement Arrangements, fabrication and testing for each of these areas.
