CODAC & IT, Heating & Current Drive, Diagnostics Department (CHD)The CHD department has responsibility for the following three systems that are essential to the correct and safe operation of the ITER Tokamak and the execution of the ITER physics program. The Heating and Current Drive System adds heat and current to the plasma so that the fusion conditions can be initiated and maintained; the Diagnostic System measures plasma performance and especially fusion performance so that the latter can be optimized; and Control, Data Access and Communication (CODAC) gathers and analyzes data and sends signals to other Tokamak systems in order to control the plasma. The department is organized into three divisions covering each of these areas. In addition, CHD is responsible for the Information Technology (IT) needs of the project. |
