Fusion Science & Technology Department
The mission of the FST Department is to support ITER construction and operation in all matters related to physics performance projection and assessment of plasma-related specifications for engineering systems.
The FST Department:
- leads science and technology R&D* including: coordination of ITER and other tokamak physics activities; implementation of the Test Blanket Program in ITER; and coordination of test blanket development performed in the framework of the Members' breeding blanket research programs; (*except that which directly supports manufacturing of ITER components)
- develops plasma control algorithms and specifies data acquisition systems for ITER;
- builds a world class integrated modelling infrastructure to support the ITER research program;
- continuously develops a research plan for ITER physics and technology exploitation including development of an international research organization that engages all ITER Members and facilitates world-class research.
