Tokamak Department

The Tokamak is the machine at the centre of the ITER project, and is made up of 40 major systems and more than 100 different components. The Tokamak Department is responsible for completing the design of these systems, preparing procurement documentation, monitoring hardware procurement, and overseeing assembly, installation, and commissioning. Its responsibilities include: the 48 superconducting magnets; the vessel systems including the vacuum vessel, the thermal shield, and the cryostat; the in-vessel systems consisting of the blanket and divertor; and machine assembly and remote handling systems.
