Build, Build, Built

The preparatory works on the ITER site are coming to an end. The big machines will soon disappear from the impressive platform that dominates the scene here in Cadarache. Since 2007, about 90 hectares have been cleared, and the main platform levelled—40 hectares on which the scientific facility, including the Tokamak Complex, will be erected. Before the end of 2009, the pre-excavation of the Tokamak Pit will be launched, in order to explore the soil and rock formation in more detail. The first concrete for the buildings is expected to be poured in 2010.

Myriam Jacobs from ITER Communications has produced a three-part series in which the main actors driving ITER site construction explain what has happened so far and what we will see happening in the near future.
