ITER Open Doors Day

The ITER Organization and the European Domestic Agency for ITER, Fusion for Energy, invite you to the upcoming edition of the ITER Open Doors Day on Saturday 01 April 2023, organized for the public.
Interactive displays, mock-ups, demonstrations (virtual reality, hands-on demos by ITER "Plasmagicians", les Petits Débrouillards) will be on offer at the Visitors Centre, where ITER ambassadors will be available to answer your questions throughout the day.


Worksite visits will be arranged every 30 minutes. They will include three stops* (reservation is mandatory):

  • A stop at the Cryostat Workshop
  • A tour of the Assembly Hall
  • A stop at the Tokamak Building

  • *The visit circuit is subject to change without prior notice depending on ongoing construction activities

    How to subscribe?

    • Register online and choose a time slot
    • Bring your identity card or passport on the day of the visit (REMINDER: a driver's licence is not accepted as a proof of identity)
    • Bring your E-ticket (printed version).
      Please bring one ticket per person registered
    • Wear clothes compatible with a worksite visit: flat, closed shoes; no skirts, shorts, or dresses.

    Security Information

    • Children below the age of 6 will not be allowed to attend any part of the Open Doors Day.
    • The construction site tour is not adapted to visitors with impaired mobility.
    • Please note: Visitors will be required to walk on the ITER site and through ITER buildings, and to negotiate stairs (up and down) during the visit. Please make sure that each participant you enroll is capable of this level of mobility.

    Practical Details

    When you arrive at ITER Headquarters in Saint Paul-lez-Durance, proceed to the staff parking lot to park your car.

    Go to the reception building in order to proceed to the access formalities.(passports (ID cards for EU citizens) and a printed ticket will be mandatory for each visitor).

    Shuttle buses running approximately every 10 minutes will take you to the worksite cafeteria*, the departure point for the one-hour tour of the worksite (buses leave approximately every 30 minutes). From there, it is only a short walk to the Visitors Centre with its exhibits and guides.

    Visitors should be appropriately dressed for the worksite tour—flat, closed shoes and no skirts, shorts, or dresses.

    We will provide mandatory safety equipment for all participants (hard hats and visitor vests).

    At the end of your tour of the worksite, the buses will return you to the exhibition area should you want to enjoy it a little longer (closing time: 18:00).

    Shuttle buses will leave approximately every 10 minutes and bring you back to your cars in the parking lot.

    The Open Doors Day will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 17:00 p.m., and is free of charge.

    • Worksite visits in English depart from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
    • Worksite visits in French depart from 11:30 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. (no translation).
