Description

The ITER Project Associate (IPA) Scheme allows Home Institutes from the ITER Members to assign employees on technical as well as support activities to the ITER Organization. Through this scheme, Home Institute employees can contribute with their expertise to strengthen international cooperation and integration between the ITER Organization Central Team and the Domestic Agencies/ITER Members.

IPA opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States).

The proposed IPA(s) must be employed by the Home Institute (HI) at the time of submission of the proposal.

Purpose/Scope:

The overall purpose of the assignment is to support the Manifold Box design and manufacturing activities, as well as perform electro-mechanical installation and assembly works preparation for the cryogenic distribution boxes and lines. On-site supervision/follow-up of the activities performed by the Contractors related to the Cryodistribution System.

• Supports the issuance of the Technical Specifications related to the design and manufacturing of the Manifold Box, as well as the mechanical and electrical installation and assembly works of the Cryodistribution system. 
• Performs the review of manufacturing/installation documentation; installation procedures, Inspection and Test Plans, and the Installation Testing procedures issued by the Contractors. Performs factory inspections, if required.
• Ensures readiness of the areas and interfaces prior to the contractors' on-site mobilisation.
• Performs on-site supervision of the installation work in the assigned area of responsibility while ensuring compliance with applicable procedures and regulations.
• Follows up and resolves required field engineering changes and non-conformances within the assigned area of responsibility.
• Issues inspection and observation reports when/if required.
• Performs supervision/surveillance of the Site Acceptance Tests, including required troubleshooting within the assigned scope of responsibility.
• Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of the ITER Safety Program, values, and ethics while ensuring Safety rates are maintained below ITER's targeted rates.
• Supports the pre-commissioning activities and works on the Hand Over Packages (HOPs) to initiate the commissioning activities.
• Performs commissioning activities and supports the pre-operation of the cryogenic plant system, when required. 
• Coordinates with various on-site entities to facilitate safe and uninterrupted installation work in compliance with the quality and schedule requirements. 
• Extended hours or shift work may be required to support commissioning activities. 
• Any other activity related to the IPA scope.

• Profesional Experience:
   6 - 9 years 

• Education:​​​​​​
   Bachelor or equivalent degree  

• Language Requirements:
  Fluent in English (written and spoken)   

• Technical Competencies and Experience:
  

  Mechanical engineer with cryogenic process knowledge and at least 8 years’ experience in engineering, installation and pre-commissioning activities (Process Plants) on large complex systems, especially including large 4 K cryogenic facilities. 

• Specific Training to Perform the Assignment:
   
  • Low voltage training
  • Working at height training
  • Scaffolding training
  • Working in shift training 
    

• Specific Requirements and Conditions:
  

  IPA may have to work in the extended hours and in the shifts, if required by the project. The specific working condition should be included in the financial proposal of the Home Institute

Purpose/Scope:

The Blanket Assembly Transporter (BAT) is an in-vessel assembly equipment to perform assembly of the blanket modules inside of the ITER vacuum vessel. It is a redundant robotic arm with 10degree-of-freedoms and 10m-long reach. The blanket modules are composed of the first walls and shield blocks. The first walls weigh up to 1.4tons, and the shield blocks up to 3.1tons and 4.2tons depending on their locations.

The scope of the task is: 

• To develop the BAT kinematic simulator to verify the design of the BAT and to demonstrate its compatibility with the in-vessel assembly sequences. It involves generating collision avoidance trajectories, interface checking with the other in-vessel assembly equipment, etc.
• To construct a BAT structural simulator. Flexible model of the BAT Transporter needs to be constructed considering the joint stiffness and body flexibility.
• To develop a control algorithm considering the flexibility of the BAT Transporter and a compensation algorithm through visual servoing and force control.
• To support IO TROs in the on-going technical follow-up of the work carried out by suppliers, including participation in regular technical coordination meetings and project progress reviews.

• Develops the BAT kinematic simulator by using NVIDIA Isaac Sim in a Linux environment.
• Develops a graphical user interface (GUI) for the BAT kinematic simulator by using Python Qt library and ROS2.
• Develops inverse kinematic algorithms using constrained nonlinear optimization methods, global optimization techniques (eg. Rapidly-Exploring Random Trees, RRT) or Artificial Intelligent approaches.
• Develops and implements parallel computing techniques utilizing the NVIDIA GPU to improve simulation and computation performance.
• Constructs a flexible model of the BAT Transporter and integrates the model into the BAT simulator.
• Develops parameter identification technique to calibrate the flexible model.
• Develops visual servoing and admittance force control of the flexible BAT transporter for positioning of the end-effector to the blanket modules.
• Executes assembly operation scenario assessments;
• Performs other related tasks, as requested by project management.
• Any other activity related to the IPA scope.

• Profesional Experience:
   3-6 years

   Master/Engineering degree/ eqivalent  

• Language Requirements:
  Fluent in English (written and spoken)   

• Technical Competencies and Experience:
  

  Experience in robot simulator will be an advantage. High level of programming skill required;

  • Python, C++, MATLAB/SIMULINK are required;
  • Experience on robot simulator such as ISAAC SIM, Gazabo, or others will be an advantage. For information, the BAT simulator uses ISAAC SIM and its GUI is written using Python Qt library.
  • Image processing (eg. OpenCV) experience is advantage.

  Experience on CATIA V5 or Solidworks will be an advantage;

  Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);

  Experience in complex and multidisciplinary projects would be an advantage;
