Description

Purpose/Scope

The purpose of this assignment is to support ITER Magnetic Diagnostics Services development, their manufacturing follow-up and installation in the tokamak complex. The development must respect existing infrastructure (interfaces) and all critical requirements (safety, maintainability, etc) and fulfil the functional and physics needs.

It is expected that the Associate will work within the Diagnostic team and in close collaboration with the assembly teams at ITER Organization (IO), industrial partners, and design developers and integration teams at IO and associated Domestic Agencies (DAs) to support IO and DA Technical Responsible Officers to keep magnetic systems on schedule.

List of activities to be performed

• Progress Magnetic Diagnostics Services development, manufacturing follow-up and installation in the tokamak complex;
• Works out, together with IO and DA teams, the systems layout taking into account all requirements (maintenance, space, etc). Oversee the overall consistency of the development and installation of Magnetic Diagnostics Services in all areas of the Tokamak complex (on-vessel, in-divertor, port plugs, port cells, attachments to the building, etc);
• Provides input for the design, development, and manufacturing of necessary tools to perform activities at the Port Integration Facility to ensure that diagnostics can be assembled, tested and maintained;
• Assists the RO in developing a magnetic system commissioning plan and performing necessary on-site functional testing (e.g., transfer function measurement);
• The work also includes performance analysis, structural analysis review, and reviewing diagrams (cabling diagram, single line diagram, etc);
• Any other activity related to the scope of the IPA assignment.

Experience & Profile:

Professional Experience:
3-6 years

Education:​​​​​​
Master/Engineering degree/ equivalent

Language Requirements:
Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Technical Competencies and Experience:

• Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field;
• Advanced knowledge of magnetic sensors and their I&C for fusion devices;
• Experience in developing magnetic diagnostics for fusion devices;
• Familiarity with ITER diagnostics is desirable;
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and reports.

Specific Training to Perform the Assignment:

• Low voltage training
• Working at height training
• Scaffolding training

Language Requirements:

• Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field;
• Experience in developing neutron diagnostics for fusion devices;
• Familiarity with ITER diagnostics complex is desirable;
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and reports.

Description

Purpose/Scope

The scope of this IPA is to provide support to Blanket First Wall and Divertor projects for the validation of plasma-facing design solutions.

List of activities to be performed

To perform optimization and validation studies in support of the full-tungsten First Wall and Divertor design teams, the IPA:

• Becomes familiar with the component design and Load Specification documents,
• Conducts 3D field-line tracing analysis and plasma heat load mapping on CAD models,
• Assesses new simplified shaping solutions proposed for the tungsten FW/Temporary FW, and performs complementary analysis for specific variants.
• Validates Divertor design modifications resulting from ongoing manufacturing studies (assessment of Non-Conformities or Deviation Requests from DA suppliers),
• Assesses Divertor design modifications required for Assembly or Integration/interface that could impact the resulting heat flux distribution on the component,
• Provides the associated technical reports in time and of good quality,
• Performs finite-element thermal analysis if needed
• Any other activity related to the scope of the IPA assignment.

Language Requirements:
Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Technical Competencies and Experience:

• Good knowledge of magnetic field line tracing and heat load mapping analysis.
• Good knowledge of Python and Matlab.
• Good knowledge of Finite element analysis (FEM).
• Basic understanding of 3D CAD models and 2D technical drawings.
• Experience with basic project management tools and collaborative platform (Teams, JIRA/Confluence), Gantt, Kanban, ...
• Experience in producing design justification reports; good writing and communication skills.
