Description

The ITER Project Associate (IPA) Scheme allows Home Institutes from the ITER Members to assign employees on technical as well as support activities to the ITER Organization. Through this scheme, Home Institute employees can contribute with their expertise to strengthen international cooperation and integration between the ITER Organization Central Team and the Domestic Agencies/ITER Members.

IPA opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States).

The proposed IPA(s) must be employed by the Home Institute (HI) at the time of submission of the proposal.

Purpose/Scope:

The purpose of this assignment is to support ITER Magnetic Diagnostics Services development, their manufacturing follow-up and installation in the tokamak complex. The development must respect existing infrastructure (interfaces) and all critical requirements (safety, maintainability, etc) and fulfil the functional and physics needs.

It is expected that the Associate will work within the Diagnostic team and in close collaboration with the assembly teams at ITER Organization (IO), industrial partners, and design developers and integration teams at IO and associated Domestic Agencies (DAs) to support IO and DA Technical Responsible Officers to keep magnetic systems on schedule.

• Progress Magnetic Diagnostics Services development, manufacturing follow-up and installation in the tokamak complex;
• Works out, together with IO and DA teams, the systems layout taking into account all requirements (maintenance, space, etc). Oversee the overall consistency of the development and installation of Magnetic Diagnostics Services in all areas of the Tokamak complex (on-vessel, in-divertor, port plugs, port cells, attachments to the building, etc);
• Provides input for the design, development, and manufacturing of necessary tools to perform activities at the Port Integration Facility to ensure that diagnostics can be assembled, tested and maintained;
• Assists the RO in developing a magnetic system commissioning plan and performing necessary on-site functional testing (e.g., transfer function measurement);
• The work also includes performance analysis, structural analysis review, and reviewing diagrams (cabling diagram, single line diagram, etc);
• Any other activity related to the scope of the IPA assignment. 

• Profesional Experience:
   3-6 years 

• Education:​​​​​​
   Master/Engineering degree/ eqivalent  

• Language Requirements:
  Fluent in English (written and spoken)   

• Technical Competencies and Experience:
  

  Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field;

  Advanced knowledge of magnetic sensors and their I&C for fusion devices;

  Experience in developing magnetic diagnostics for fusion devices;

  Familiarity with ITER diagnostics is desirable;

  Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation and reports.

The development must respect existing infrastructure (interfaces) and all critical requirements (safety, maintainability, etc) and fulfill the functional and physics needs. It is expected that the Associate will work within the Diagnostic team and in close collaboration with the assembly teams at IO, industrial partners, and design developers/ port integration teams at ITER Organization, Indian Domestic Agency, and US Domestic Agency to support ITER Responsible Officers to keep microwave systems on schedule.

• Progress microwave diagnostic development, manufacturing follow-up, and installation in the tokamak complex.
• Work out, together with ITER and Domestic Agencies teams, the systems layout taking into account all requirements (maintenance, space, etc).

Purpose/Scope:

As an Electrical Engineer in the QMD's QS section, support the ITER project through contractor document management and technical supervision

of Electrical and I&C(Instrumentation and Control) components during FAT(Factory Acceptance Test), SAT(Site Acceptance Test) and general on/off-site operations.

Contributing to the document review submitted from suppliers/contractors and supervision of construction, testing, and commissioning of electrical I&C components and systems

The required competencies and qualifications for this area include expertise in both power conversion components and I&C operating the controlled components and systems

• Supports the QMD/QSS/QCC(Quality Control at Construction) to cover the execution ofoverall electrical inspection progress and activities
• Performs transversal tasks such as PIM (Pre-Inspection Meeting), Contactor Weekly Meetings, and KPI Statistics follow-up
• Documentation and Review Support: Assists in reviewing quality plans, procedures, Deviation Requests, non-conformance reports, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Manufacturing Inspection Plans (MIPs), final quality documentation, subcontractor submissions, and other relevant quality-related documents.
• Non-Conformance Management: Identifies potential non-conformities, initiates Non-Conformity (NC) processes as needed, supports the treatment of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and follows up to ensure effective corrective and remedial actions.
• Promotion of Quality Culture: Actively promotes a quality culture within the organization, ensuring quality requirements are understood and propagated across all levels and departments.
• Performs the On/Off-site supervision following contractor notifications, including Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) of Cables(Power, Signal and Fiber-Optics), testing, and commissioning of electrical and I&C components
• High level of understanding of electrical M&TE(Measuring and Testing equipment)
• Follow-up on inspection results and suggestions for improvements: Non-Conformance Report (NCR), Design Review (DR), Field Change Request (FCR), and Request For Information (RFI).
• Additional Quality Assurance Tasks: Perform any other quality assurance tasks assigned, aligned with IO’s quality objectives and project requirements.

Purpose/Scope:

The purpose of the assignment is to provide, under ITER Responsible Officer (IO RO) leadership, the support in engineering assessment of the diagnostic systems located in the integrated lower, equatorial and upper diagnostic ports; to make sure that systems are designed to withstand various loads (thermal, seismic etc) structurally, including thermal fatigue assessment, and propose design improvements if they don’t. The assessment of diagnostic systems has to be made compliant with ITER practices and guidelines and documented in the System Load Specifications, supportive reports and Structural Integrity Reports (for in-vessel, in-PP components and ex-PP components).

• Conducts comprehensive engineering assessments of the diagnostic systems inside the integrated port infrastructure in lower, equatorial and upper ports.
• Supports IO Responsible Officers (ROs) in developing and substantiating design justifications to ensure diagnostic systems in the integrated lower, equatorial, and upper ports can withstand thermal loads, including the evaluation of fatigue-related factors.
• Collaborates closely with the port engineering team in the finalization of system designs, ensuring proper integration between diagnostic components and port infrastructure.
• Assists IO ROs in overseeing and following up on manufacturing analyses for diagnostic ports carried out by industry partners and ITER Domestic Agencies.
• Any other activity related to the scope of the IPA assignment.

• Technical Competencies and Experience:
  
  •  Previous experience in Mechanical engineering of complex structures.

  •  Understanding of schematics and 3D/2D models.
  • Experience in using ANSYS for structural analysis.
  • Experience working in an international environment would be advantageous

• Specific Training to Perform the Assignment:
   

  Training in ANSYS if necessary.

  • Experience in application of Nuclear Codes and Standards in analysis work (RCC-MR, ASME, EN etc).
