Description

Purpose/Scope:
The purpose of this assignment is to support ITER optical diagnostics development, manufacturing follow-up, and installation in the tokamak complex. Thedevelopment must respect existing infrastructure (interfaces) and all critical requirements (safety, maintainability, etc) and fulfil the functional and physics needs.
It is expected that the Associate will work within the Diagnostic team and in close collaboration with the assembly teams at IO, industrial partners, and designdevelopers/ port integration teams at IO, India Domestic Agency and US Domestic Agency to support IO Responsible Officers to keep optical systems on schedule.

List of Activities:

• Supports progress of optical diagnostic system development by performing optical analysis, opto-mechanical design, optical alignment, and manufacturingfollow-up and installation in the tokamak complex.
• Works with IO and Domestic Agency teams to ensure diagnostic systems meet all requirements (maintenance, space, etc). Oversee the overall consistency ofthe development and installation of optical diagnostics in all areas of the tokamak complex (port plugs, attachments to the building, etc).
• Contributes to the design, development, manufacturing, of maintenance tools and tools to work with the Port Integration Facility to ensure that diagnosticscan be assembled, maintained, and tested.
• The work also includes manipulating a Class IV laser, assessing performance, and reviewing documents.
• Any other activity related to the scope of the IPA assignment.

Experience & Profile:

Profesional Experience:
3-6 years

Education:
Master/Engineering degree/ eqivalent Class IV Laser safety

Language Requirements:
Fluent in English (written and spoken)

Technical Competencies and Experience:

• Hands-on experience with designing, assembling, and aligning an optical system is required.
• Experience working with Class IV lasers. Experience with CO2 lasers a significant advantage.
• Skill is required in one of the following two areas (skill in both areas would be a significant advantage):
  1) Optical system layout, performance analysis, and optimisation using an optical analysis tool such as Zemax
  2) Opto-mechanical design

Specific Training to Perform the Assignment:
Laser safety training

Specific Requirements and Conditions:
Role requires setting up optical system in a lab environment and working with CO2 laser.

Financial Aspects
Paid by the HI, but under certain conditions, as defined in the ITER Project Associates Scheme, IO could provide support.
