Description

The ITER Project Associate (IPA) Scheme allows Home Institutes from the ITER Members to assign employees on technical as well as support activities to the ITER Organization. Through this scheme, Home Institute employees can contribute with their expertise to strengthen international cooperation and integration between the ITER Organization Central Team and the Domestic Agencies/ITER Members.

IPA opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and the United States).

The proposed IPA(s) must be employed by the Home Institute (HI) at the time of submission of the proposal.

Purpose/Scope:

Supports the structural analysis activities of IO Analysis Section (SID/CID/IEA). This will primarily involve performing structural analysis and independent review of structural analysis reports provided by IO-CT departments and DAs. The work will be mainly focused on assembly tools and sequences, construction, and support for design integration.

• Prepares Finite Element (FE) or computational models of ITER components;
• Performs structural (mechanical and thermal) analyses for the verification of the structural integrity for the completion of the engineering justification files or in support of the assembly and commissioning phase of the ITER mechanical components, following methodologies and procedures applied to analysis classified as Project Importance Activity (PIA) or non-PIA;
• Performs independent revision of analysis documents to verify compliance with ITER requirements for analyses (including safety requirements for PIA);
• Proposes solutions for the demonstration of compliance of components with the design criteria for nuclear safety equipment;
• Prepares detailed and summary analysis reports;
• Develops programs, macros, and software routines to interface programs for common use across the project;
• Contributes to the update and record of the FE models developed inside the ITER Organization (IO) and by the Domestic Agencies (DAs);
• Carries out other related tasks, upon request from line management.
• It is currently envisioned that the majority of the work will be focused on assembly tools and sequences, construction, and support for design integration, etc.

• Profesional Experience:
   3-6 years 

• Education:​​​​​​
   Master/Engineering degree/ eqivalent  

• Language Requirements:
  Fluent in English (written and spoken)   

• Technical Competencies and Experience:
  

  • Education/Know-How :
    - Master's degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering;
    - Knowledge of design criteria for nuclear and non-nuclear components (e.g. Codes for cranes and lifting equipment, Eurocodes, ASME III/VIII, RCC-MR, ASN guides);
    - Knowledge of analysis methodologies for normal and extreme events for Nuclear Installations.

  • Technical  Project experience:
    - At least 5 years of experience in structural mechanical calculations and related activities;
    - Experience in the preparation of structural analysis reports for Nuclear Installations;

  • Social skills:
    - Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment;
    - Ability to work in a team and to promote teamwork.

  • Language requirements: 
    - Fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Computer and IT skills:

  - Experience in the use of ANSYS APDL and Workbench is required. 

  - Knowledge of other finite element analysis software would be an asset;
  - Experience working with Microsoft Office suite of programs;
  - Experience in the use of MATLAB, Visual Basic (VBA) or PYTHON would be an asset.

Purpose/Scope:

The IPA will support design activities related to the Neutral Beam Project, including:

• Performs execution of technical studies, impact assessment, and implementation of change requests and design review preparations; identifies and reports new issues or any deviation.
• Produces deliverables in accordance with the 3d work plans proposed by technical teams, such as general arrangement/layout drawings, schematics, 3D models, assembly/part drawings, isometrics, tolerance chain analysis, assembly and built-to-print drawings (following ISO 22081:2021), bills of materials, 3D simulations, tagging & other CAD data to support all phases (design, procurement, pre-assembly, installation & commissioning);

• Supports mechanical design activities, involving part and assembly design, generative shape design, and structure design using CATIA, with the ability to produce 3D models, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM), and component lists.
• Contributes to Plant Design activities, covering piping and hanger design, equipment arrangement, and systems space reservation, using catalogue management tools such as CADENAS and EnS.
• Prepares drawings and technical documentations, including drafting, generation of isometric drawings with I-RUN/ ISOGEN etc. ; diagram types include Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Control Block Diagrams (CBD), and Single Line Diagrams (SLD) using the SSD (See System Design (CAD software from IGE XAO)) tool.
• Manages multiple concurrent tasks by setting clear priorities and tracking progress systematically.
• Ensures that decisions are documented clearly and traceably, using verifiable data and task-related facts.
• Performs any other activities related to the overall IPA tasks.

Purpose/Scope:

The overall purpose of the assignment is to support the Manifold Box design and manufacturing activities, as well as perform electro-mechanical installation and assembly works preparation for the cryogenic distribution boxes and lines. On-site supervision/follow-up of the activities performed by the Contractors related to the Cryodistribution System.

• Supports the issuance of the Technical Specifications related to the design and manufacturing of the Manifold Box, as well as the mechanical and electrical installation and assembly works of the Cryodistribution system. 
• Performs the review of manufacturing/installation documentation; installation procedures, Inspection and Test Plans, and the Installation Testing procedures issued by the Contractors. Performs factory inspections, if required.
• Ensures readiness of the areas and interfaces prior to the contractors' on-site mobilisation.
• Performs on-site supervision of the installation work in the assigned area of responsibility while ensuring compliance with applicable procedures and regulations.
• Follows up and resolves required field engineering changes and non-conformances within the assigned area of responsibility.
• Issues inspection and observation reports when/if required.
• Performs supervision/surveillance of the Site Acceptance Tests, including required troubleshooting within the assigned scope of responsibility.
• Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of the ITER Safety Program, values, and ethics while ensuring Safety rates are maintained below ITER's targeted rates.
• Supports the pre-commissioning activities and works on the Hand Over Packages (HOPs) to initiate the commissioning activities.
• Performs commissioning activities and supports the pre-operation of the cryogenic plant system, when required. 
• Coordinates with various on-site entities to facilitate safe and uninterrupted installation work in compliance with the quality and schedule requirements. 
• Extended hours or shift work may be required to support commissioning activities. 
• Any other activity related to the IPA scope.

• Profesional Experience:
   6 - 9 years 

• Education:​​​​​​
   Bachelor or equivalent degree  

• Language Requirements:
  Fluent in English (written and spoken)   

• Technical Competencies and Experience:
  

  Mechanical engineer with cryogenic process knowledge and at least 8 years’ experience in engineering, installation and pre-commissioning activities (Process Plants) on large complex systems, especially including large 4 K cryogenic facilities. 

• Specific Training to Perform the Assignment:
   
  • Low voltage training
  • Working at height training
  • Scaffolding training
  • Working in shift training 
    

• Specific Requirements and Conditions:
  

  IPA may have to work in the extended hours and in the shifts, if required by the project. The specific working condition should be included in the financial proposal of the Home Institute
