2026-09-12 - The visit of Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy, Onoda Kimi, reflects Japan’s longstanding commitment to the ITER project and to advancing fusion as a sustainable energy source for future generations. She was received onsite by ITER's Deputy Director-General for Science and Technology, Kamada Yutaka, and the Deputy Head of the ITER Construction Project, Omae Takayoshi.

2026-09-11 - Shan Zhongde, one of China’s most senior officials responsible for nuclear energy, space and defence-related industries, visits ITER on Friday 11 September and is welcomed by Chief Scientist Alain Bécoulet. Chairman Shan praised the project’s scientific and diplomatic significance, stating: “By sharing its experience and lessons learned, ITER can help advance fusion development around the world and bring us closer to realizing fusion energy.”

2026-09-09 - The Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, Mori Eisuke, visits the ITER site on Wednesday 9 September. He is the highest-ranking Japanese official to have visited ITER to date.

2026-07-22 - On 22 July, ITER Korean Fusion Day celebrates Korea’s contributions to ITER, with a special focus on the vacuum vessel. Next week, the fourth and final Korean-manufactured vacuum vessel sector will be transferred into the tokamak pit. Joining ITER Director-General Pietro Barabaschi on stage are Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to France, Hyuk-woon Kwon (left), and Deputy Minister of Science and ICT, Sung Soo Kim (right).

2026-07-16 - Russian Federation Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov is welcomed by ITER Director-General Pietro Barabaschi during a visit to ITER on 16 July 2026. Minister Falkov and his delegation visited the worksite and discussed scientific and technological cooperation related to the ITER project.

2026-07-04 - Indian Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman visits the ITER project on 4 July as part of an official four-day visit to France. She is welcomed to ITER headquarters by head of the Office of the Director-General Kattalai Ramachandran Sriram and Chief Scientist and Deputy Director-General Alain Bécoulet.

A visit highlight is the tour of the principal machine assembly spaces in the company of (left to right) the Chair of the Fusion for Energy (F4E) Governing Board Francesco Sette, ITER Director-General Pietro Barabaschi, and F4E Director Marc Lachaise.

2026-06-25 - During the 38th meeting of the ITER Council on 25 and 26 June 2026, Members reaffirmed the importance of ITER's mission and demonstrated their strong dedication to ensuring the project's success. Progress against the 2024 baseline continues to be strong, with one milestone after another being achieved in the assembly and installation of the ITER machine and plant.

2026-04-14 - On 14 April 2026, the French Authority for Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection (ASNR) approves the ITER Organization’s request to exclude the ITER vacuum vessel from French and European pressure equipment rules. By recognizing that electromagnetic forces—not coolant pressure—drive the ITER tokamak vessel design, the decision marks a significant step toward a regulatory framework tailored to tokamak fusion devices.

2026-03-02 - ENN Science and Development Co. Ltd (China) is the second private sector initiative to join the International Tokamak Physics and Engineering Activity (ITPEA) after it completes all the steps of a formal process opened to private sector fusion firms in 2025. ENN will join ITPEA physics activities from April 2026.

2026-01-15 - Under the editorial lead of EUROfusion, the ITER Engineering Basis Handbook is designed as a stand-alone compilation of ITER design principles, the project's underlying technical design basis, and the technical, scientific, and regulatory rationale behind major design decisions.
