European Domestic Agency to be called 'Fusion for Energy'

18 Oct 2006 - Sabina Griffith

Now that the ITER international negotiations are being finalized, Europe is preparing for the establishment of its Domestic Agency to provide its contribution to ITER: "Fusion for Energy." This new organization will also provide Europe's contribution to the Broader Approach projects agreed with Japan for the rapid realization of fusion energy and, in the longer term, support a program of research and development activities to prepare for the construction of prototype fusion reactors.

Following a decision of the European Council of November 2003, the Fusion for Energy headquarters will be located in Spain (Barcelona). It should be fully operational by spring 2007.
