ITER Project Associates
The ITER Project Associate (IPA) scheme allows Home Institutes from the ITER Members to assign employees on technical as well as support activities to the ITER Organization. Through this scheme, Home Institute employees can contribute through their expertise to strengthening the international cooperation and integration between the ITER Organization and the Domestic Agencies/ITER Members.
The ITER Project Associate scheme is open to any Home Institute who has signed a Memorandum of Understanding/Memorandum of Agreement (MoU/MoA) or a Cooperation Agreement with the ITER Organization defining areas of common interest. The ITER Project Associate(s) will perform activities for the ITER Organization for a period of time defined by an Implementing Agreement signed between the Home Institute and the ITER Organization.
As of 1 March 2025, all the proposals for ITER Project Associates’ expressions of interest shall be submitted through the Home Institute’s Agency portal in the digitalized platform – SAP SuccessFactors. Proposals received by email will not be considered.
New entities (not having yet assigned IPAs) interested in submitting proposal as a Home Institute shall contact @email for guidance.
The proposed ITER Project Associate(s) must be employed by the Home Institute at the time of submission of the proposal. Click for more detailed information on the ITER Project Associate Scheme.
ITER Project Associate opportunities are limited to nationals from countries participating in the ITER Project (People's Republic of China, the European Union, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation and the United States).

Description |
Purpose/Scope The purpose of this IPA is to provide expert plasma boundary modelling support for all activities in this area connected with the further development/refinement of the revised ITER Research Plan, the development of the ITER Pulse Design Simulator and, when required, in response to specific requests for physics support in the plasma boundary simulation area from Projects outside Science Division. The focus will be on simulations with the SOLPS-ITER simulation code, and the IPA will also be expected to participate in the development of the code when required and to support other users, both internally and in the external user community.

Description |
Purpose/Scope ITER CODAC is in the process of commissioning and integration of plant control systems delivered by the ITER partners under Domestic Agencies (DA) governance. There is a high demand from DAs, off-site suppliers, institutes, and laboratories to provide effective means of remote participation in plant commissioning and operation. This goes in line with the IO's overarching goal of better involvement of DAs in the IO processes. In response to this, ITER CODAC has designed and built networks and infrastructure to support the remote participation of ITER partners in commissioning and operation. The remote participation infrastructure currently extends to two DAs and four fusion institutes in six out of seven ITER parties. This infrastructure and the associated daily activities generate a support workload that needs to be handled by an IPA. Remote Participation applications make part of a larger software suite called CODAC Operation Applications, which provides the upper layer of the ITER conventional control system. These applications must work in an integrated manner to provide a complete and convenient environment for Operators. The IPA may be expected to contribute to various parts of the Operation Applications beyond the scope of Remote Participation.
