ITER toroidal field coils
ITER's 18 powerful toroidal field magnets will generate a magnetic field of 11.8 T (approximately one million times stronger than that of the Earth). In this poster, the European Domestic Agency for ITER, Fusion for Energy, shows how the D-shaped coils are manufactured.

ITER construction (updated January 2021)
The ITER Organization entered an important phase of its history in August 2010, when construction began on the first of 39 buildings and technical areas of the ITER scientific installation. Today, work is accelerating on the Tokamak Complex and ancillary buildings. Format: A1 (23.39" x 33.11", 300dpi RGB)

ITER assembly (updated January 2021)

The ITER Organization has the responsibility of integrating and assembling the components delivered to the ITER site by the seven ITER Members. Machine assembly was launched in May 2020; five years will be necessary to complete first-phase assembly tasks. Format: A1 (23.39" x 33.11", 300dpi RGB)

The ITER Tokamak
ITER will be the world's largest tokamak (from a Russian acronym meaning "toroidal chamber with magnetic coils"). The 23,000-tonne, 30-metre-tall machine will be the first fusion machine to produce net energy. Format: A1 (23.39" x 33.11")

The ITER cryostat
The stainless steel cryostat surrounds the ITER vacuum vessel and superconducting magnets and ensures an ultra-cool, high-vacuum environment. With a volume of 16,000 m³ it will be the world's largest stainless steel high-vacuum pressure chamber. Format: A1 (23.39" x 33.11")

The ITER divertor
Positioned at the bottom of the vacuum vessel, the divertor controls the exhaust of waste gas and impurities from the reactor and withstands the highest surface heat loads of the ITER machine. Format: A1 (23.39" x 33.11")

Assembly tools
The ITER Organization has overall responsibility for the integration and assembly of components delivered to the ITER site by the seven ITER Members. In order to successfully pre-assemble and manoeuvre hundreds of large components, a made-to-order set of 128 tools will be required. Format: A1 (23.39" x 33.11")
